Joke

There was a day partner announced to re-organise the Audit Division. The move commenced on one of the Friday. On that Friday, those groups who were affected would be busy shifting their seats to another floor. There's this Senior Manager who couldn't make it that day, so he booked 2 assistants to do the shifting for him.

Somebody passed by this Senior Manager's old seat and saw these 2 assistants were busy taking pictures. They're basically taking pictures from every angle and every corner of the seat. Being curious, this busybody approached the 2 cute assistants...

Busybody: Hey... what are you guys doing?
Assistants: The manager is asking us to help out clearing the seat and move his stuffs to his new seat.
Busybody: Then why are you both taking pictures?
Assistants: Orh... the manager asked us to take picture of his old seat cos he wants his new seat looks exactly the same as his old one......

Hahahaha.... That's so ridiculous! The story started to spread around in office and become a big laughing stock.

Can you imagine somebody took pictures and then trying to match the display of those stationaries and files to the pictures taken? I bet these 2 assistants must be those fresh graduates and very obliged to the instructions given. Take pictures and I want my new seat look exactly the same as my old seat eh? LOL. Super fei....

How much you know about watch?

To me, a watch is a device which displays time. It is a timepiece and no more than that. Although it could be masterpiece, I never think of exploring further until yesterday...

I've thought of buying my dad and my brother as birthday gift last month, but I dragged it until yesterday as I was really quite tied up with works until recently where I could have a bit of time for myself. Roughly knew the brand and the model I was looking at, ended up buying different model and different brand though. I didn't just pay for the watch... but an opportunity to explore myself to watch... haha....

I was wondering how does a mechanical watch function without battery. *Actually I later knew there's this mechanical watch and quartz watch... -_-"* Then I was wondering how the watch knows which month I was in when I merely set the date and the day (but I presume the year was preset). I was thinking maybe there was no repetitive match of "date" and "day" in a year. I checked to the calendar, it proved me wrong. For each match of "date" and "day", it repeats twice in a year. I asked my friend who is very addicted to watch, he merely told me it's human's invention plus a word "suagu". -_- To solve my puzzle, the best way to go is "Google". Heehee.

If I don't search, I wouldn't have known there are so much technical information behind a watch. Wikipedia is also informative and you've got to "watch" this. There are also some glossary terms. Gosh.

Please bear with my suagu. Maybe one day I'll become an expert in watches. Just wait. Hehe.

End of suay engagement

What have I been up to recently? Sorry guys... basically I've forgotten what I've said to you guys over msn, nor in person. I'd probably forgotten what happened apart from those matters arose from work. Maybe I'd also turned down a few gatherings (yq, right?) Pai seh...

I'd been very busy with the suay engagement and it has finally come to an end yesterday (19/10/2007); I was quite sick over the entire week; I'd seen doctor twice to get flu medicine but the drug didn't work on me still; I worked with the engagement manager until 5am and still continue to work the next day after few hours sleep. None of the days in the past week I got home before 10pm. Crazy huh? Crazy indeed.

I don't quite like working under this manager. I really don't like his working style as he likes to flood me with email, with sms and delegates me a lot of adhoc administrative tasks (while I have my main task to complete) and expects me to chop chop complete it. I have to work in a very fast pace in order to catch up of him. This kind of working style could really bring me heartattack at any point of time. Because I'm a virus-bearer, I also passed on my virus to him and the other team members. Bascially the whole team was not working in good state. Hmm.... can't blame me... I had made a "formal announcement" to all of them on day 1 that this is a cursed engagement. Apart from the nature of the engagement - long working hours and mad rush for deadline, all sort of funny things could happen at any point of time.

To certain extent, I do look up this manager regardless how dislike I am towards his working style. He's basically groomed by "Robin" so my first impression on him was that, he will be somehow like him since he's one of his favourite. I quite appreciate the way he handles staffs and client. I'm also grateful that he didn't let me die alone, he's willing to die with the team. He will also take the responsibility to cover the team at front line.

Robin is different. Robin will put the blame all the way down without investigating further. He will first point the fault to the team, which is very despicable and low class. It's really sickening when I thought of the silly argument over a stupid entries with him. "Don't work with your own logic, you're not making things easy for me..."... feel like punching him when I heard from him. Please lah... simple mathematic and I've proved it wrong by a simple reconciliation, what's more he wants? Why waste effort and time on finger pointing who is at fault when it's not gonna help to resolve the problem? E xin..

The engagement manager had a talk with me about this engagement at the end of the day. He sort of comfort me the coming year end audit will be smoother than last year and this review. Well... I was tempted to tell him that I won't be around by that time and thus won't be playing a part... Anyway, good luck to the next AIC who's going to lead this 2 engagements... and the manager.

So, you know what my D-day means now? :)

Selamat Hari Raya

公定假日,在那个恶心的地方呆到12 点多;
别人在 shopping 我在 working.
游子回家的回家,去 short-trip 的去 short-trip,but I was stuck by work here.

连续几天下来的没日没夜,心里竟然没有什么埋怨。异常平静。
很晚睡觉却很早起来。
行尸走肉般的过生活,大概也只是这样。

Absurd

Something absolutely absurd happened, as if those we'll only see in Hong Kong's series. So drama and had bombarded me the whole day. I never thought ppl can behave as mad as this. What made it even fantastic was my previous post entry seem to be a 预告, of what happened today. Gosh. (There's a password, you go find out yourself.)

Vision will be blurred by what's presented to you. Human's nature. As you calm down and think twice about it, you might grab a better picture of what's going on.

Trying to analyse from different perspectives but it was not appreciated; don't wish to make things even more complicated but it seemed worse; don't want to mention too much but still say out.

I thought myself smart; actually I was not.

Don't get me in anymore. Don't ever tell me "I shouldn't have.... blah blah blah" or "I regret to ... blah blah blah". Don't bug me with all the negative theories.

If you want to fall out with each other, your choice.

I've tried to think and speak from your perspectives, but have you all seriously thought or considered the whole incident from my perspective? Don't make unfair representation pls.

Go ahead to think I'm a horrible, terrible, unpredictable, unreasonable or whatever you-may-think-of-negative person. Go ahead, pls.

Walao.... absurd! Really TMD.

Oh my god ~~~

I dreamt of something bad last night and I found myself in tears when woke up. Then I told wsj about the dream and he said it's not something bad. It might be a good omen about fortune.

According to my dream... I gave them a number - 2158. There were another 2 other numbers which were also the contributing factors to the earlier number - 1987 and 1950. And guess what??

In jumping sequence, 2581 opened at Singapore Pool.

In jumping sequence, again, 1897 came out as first prize at Malaysia Toto.

Oh my god~~~ why so xuan one?

Anyway, both of them didn't strike. One didn't have time to buy; another one didn't buy i-bet. Hmm... I should buy... I'd strike if I buy... Hoho.

Siem Reap Trip - Part 6

Talking about hot balloon ride, how would you expect it to be?

Would it be something like this which will take you around the city? An exciting trip where you float above the city and drift with the breeze?

Where you sit in the wicker basket with a limited number ppl, when the hot air ballon is operated by an experienced operator? Maybe you could be having champagne breakfast while flying? (Ohh okay... I know it's too much... but there is really such deal.)

And you run the risk where the balloon or the wicker basket will get burned?
Sound so tempting and exciting right?

Can you imagine when you're excitedly going for the hot air balloon ride and you see the balloon looks this?

There is no hot air... but lots of ropes...

And the wicker basket become a donut shaped gondola surrounded by ropes as if you're put in jail?

And the balloon doesn't take you around the city but it flies straight upwards and stop at certain height? Can you see the string that ties to the balloon?

Anyway.... it's only USD 15. I can't be expecting the ride be that adventurous as I imagine. The ride only took you 15 mins. So it cost USD1 per min for the ride.

At the visitor centre there's this signboard which put up all the scenery you can view high above the sky - Angkor Wat and Bakheng are one of them.

But, there weren't much scenery view. I was thinking maybe the weather was not that good that morning. The best view I can shot of Angkor Wat were as follow, pretty disappointing.

Angkor Balloon is something you can try after visiting to so many temples in the Angkor. Whether or not it is worth for money? You judge it yourself.

Let's go Barossa Valley for the adventurous hot air balloon air ride next time. Anyone interested? Heehee...

Siem Reap Trip - Part 5

If you have very limited time for Angkor Complex... apart from Angkor Wat, the next worth visiting temple will be Bayon.

Bayon is located at the centre of Angkor Thom, one of the Buddhist temple in Angkor, symbolised by the smilling faces (approximately 200) everywhere in the temple.

Smilling face on the tower. Each tower consists 4 faces. One at each cardinal points.

Wall of the temple depicts apsara dance. Below is the classic apsara craving at Bayon.

Yang Boon's first apsara pose. ^_^

At the centre of the tower, it was a very dark area where there was some praying activities. It's indeed a very dark area and I hardly saw what's going on in there. And suddenly somebody made a noise and I.... screamed~~ out~~ loud~~ *faint*

A snapshot of the dark place. Pretty eerie when think about it. So dark... how do they pray?

Bayon is best seen in the morning. If you are visiting Bayon, make sure you visit in the morning. According to guidebook, sunrise creates eerie effect on the faces. Hiak~

Dining at Cafe Swiss

It's not of any special occasion. This Michelle suddenly called me while I was about to leave office.

Michelle: Hey.. where are you?
Me: Office lor...
Michelle: What? still working?
Me: About to leave.. why?
Michelle: What do you want to do after you get home?
Me: *puzzle in mind - How am I supposed to answer this?* Nothing much.. home means home lor.. your question is funny leh.. haha...
Michelle: Oh.. hahaha... then you want dinner with me or not? We go some places where we can get 50% discount.
Me: Why got such good deal? Ladies' night ah?
Michelle: Aiyah... I got Raffles' member card mah...
Me: Don't tell me it's Raffles Hotel again ah....
Michelle: No la... Let's go Cafe Swiss.. But I'm still at office now.... I pack and go now..

Faint lor this gal... I was trying to cabut as soon as possible in order to shun this 阴魂不散 stalker in office but this lady was still in office at Tuas! Goodness... and I take my hat off to her for her tai-tai lifestyle, always dining at high end cafe. The first time I had dinner with her was at Mount Faber; then buffet at Bar & Billiard @ Raffles Hotel; now Cafe Swiss @ Swissotel.

I didn't bother to wait her in office but said to meet her at Robinson Rd instead. I'd rather stroll along the street rather than kena stalked by that manager.

Got into her car, she started to tell me how busy she was because her boss is flying to Shanghai for F-1. *hahaha* Amusing enough. As we sat by the table, after we placed order she said she wanted to take picture. *Gosh* I told her that my this mobile phone doesn't have flash light and it's only 2 megapixel. The resolution will not be satisfactory but she insisted. Okay.... so we got the waitress to take the first shot for us.

After viewing the picture, she said the view was not good. The waitress should take from this and that angle so that the view could be better.. Okay.. so I told her to get another waitress for another shot but make sure it's not the same waitress again. Then she said she'd get a waiter instead of waitress, maybe guy could get her mean better. *faint*

Well... she's satisfied with this picture... Is there any significant difference with the view? I wonder. I personally don't think there are much differences compared to the first shot.

Okay.. now's the classic story... This lady asked me to send her the picture so that she can put the picture as her wallpaper.

Michelle: Send me the picture leh... I want to put it as my wallpaper..
Me: Okay.. you turn on your bluetooth?
Michelle: Ya...
Me: Okay... I'm searching now... Which one is you? Wai?
Michelle: *A bit blur* Hm.. Ya..
Me: Okay... sent...
Michelle: Sent? I didn't receive..
Me: Hello... you accepted the file just now..
Michelle: I didn't.. by the way, how to turn on my bluetooth??
*Nearly faint*
Me: Hey.. Xiao Jie... then who is this "Wai"? I asked you if you're "Wai" you said yes? This guy has got our picture now!!!! And now you tell me you don't know to turn on your bluetooth??
Michelle: I thought you'll be sending the picture via MMS mah....
*Vomit blood*
Me: Aiyoh.......... where got ppl send picture via MMS now?? Bluetooth you know??

So we quickly looking around to spot this "Wai". But 方圆四百里 I didn't see anyone holding mobile with a weird look, nor looked towards our direction.

Vomited enough blood, I took over her mobile and started to send the file to her. Files were sent but no where to retrieve. Couldn't locate her memory card. This lady didn't seem to know her mobile well either. *Faint* I was asked to transfer the files again but this round, store them in phone.

~~ File is too large to open ~~

Apa phone ini?? Really speechless. Wasted my effort to figure out as to how to turn on her bluetooth, send files and retrieve files.

Despite the starter I had - bread and pumpkin soup, I had the Salmon (don't remember the name of the dishes) as main course, and lastly lemon lime sherbet as dessert.

Have been eating more than usual since last Thursday... As a result, I put 2 kgs on weight in a week!!!

Can somebody tell me how to lose weight now?? *sianzzz*

Siem Reap Trip - Part 4

If you have limited time to tour around Siem Reap, I believe you'd know where are those you-cannot-miss-out places in Siem Reap. Angkor Wat is one of it.

Angkor Wat is such an amazing spot, there are lots of information you can surf through internet. So, I'm not going to write the history and background about this temple, they're just repetitive. (What a powerful excuse. Hehe) Here's some useful links (you may just search in google and you'll get plenty anyway....):

Angkor Wat Information Page

吴哥窟
风尘四侠游柬埔寨

To summarise:

1. This temple was built by Suryavarman ІІ and is considered the biggest Asian pyramid
2. The temple is divided into 3 levels
3. The most famous decorations of Angkor are the heavenly nymphs (Apsara)
4. The temple is a representation of Mount Meru, the home of the gods

If you ask 10 ppl who've been to Angkor Wat, 10 will tell you they wake up early in the morning for sunrise at Angkor Wat. Yeah... we're one of them. Set off to Angkor Wat at 5am for the sunrise.. crazy huh..

Find a good spot and sat by, there were many crazy fella like us sitting by the lotus pond and waiting for the sunrise. Then, you'd see local kids approaching the tourist: Sir, you want coffee? You buy coffee from me, the sun will come out. Hahaha... (if you go market, ppl will say: Lady, you want scarf? If you buy, I can give discount.. )

Can see the sky was covered by cloud. It's a bad timing and we're not able to see the sunrise. The best sunrise we could see is shown in the pic. No sun at all, but "sunlight".

After the disappointing sunrise, before we headed for breakfast, I took this pic for Ninja. Then suddenly he said: "Hey... 什么来的??" (see the 不明物体 circled in picture). Yalor.. What's that? UFO? Then we had another shot, the thing was not there anymore..

We came back Angkor Wat in the afternoon. As Angkor Wat is oriented to the west, it is best for visit in the afternoon whereby it looks more magnificent under "optimal lighting condition"?

The first level presents the mass of bas-relief carving include includes the Battle of Kurukshetra, the Army of Suryavarman II, Heaven and Hell, Churning of the Ocean of Milk, Elephant Gate, Vishnu Conquers the Demons, Khrisna and the demon King, Battle of the Gods and the Demons and the Battle of Lanka. (Don't ask me what are those.... basically 我看不懂... 呵呵..... Maybe a tour guide will be helpful who can tell you the stories?)

An introduction quoted from ctrip.com:

第一层:最下面一层平台周遭长800米的回廊布满讲述宗教故事的浮雕。从西门入口开始逆时针行进,看到的分别是:

(西)决战俱卢之野-黑天举起牛增山-猴王波林之死-

(南)苏利耶跋摩二世军队-阎摩审判-

(东)搅拌乳海-(大象门)-毗湿奴战胜群魔-

(北)黑天与魔王班那-神魔之战-

(西)楞枷之战

It's pretty tiring though.. I felt so as I tour along the long galaries. Of cos.. woke up so early in the morning...

Some ppl even fell asleep lor....

Scenic view from at first level. Can see the hot air balloon right? Something out of topic - we'd been to the visitor centre thrice before we can actually alight to the hot air balloon.

Then come to second level, actually the second level didn't leave me much impression. According to the guide book, second level presents distinctive apsara carvings.

第二层:第二层平台比第一层高7米,周长约430米。这一层的浮雕与第一层相比较多装饰意味,如仙女雕像、莲花蓓蕾等形象。

You might be wondering what is apsara... This is apsara.. This is not the classic one. Something out of topic again: According to Ninja, it was a nice smile while he took this picture but, it turned to be angry face and she showed teeth. Those red spots were not seen while the picture was taken. Strange huh?

Don't ask me what is this.... looks like a swimming pool to me... haha...

This is a stone temple. Carving is everywhere on wall, pillar, and roof. I cannot visualise how the temple was built. How much human resource and efforts were put into the building of the temple?

You might be impressed by this.... although it doesn't look coordinated with the background.

Lotus tower

Then, the third level... I'll not forget about this because of this STEEP staircase.

Looking from top-down... quite scary actually...

Up there at third level, the view is quite similar to the 2nd level actually. It's surrounded by apsara carvings along the walkway.

Till then... Angkor Wat... Stay tune for next part - Bayon... :)

Rich Dad, Poor dad

Read this book a few years ago. As I was waiting someone at MPH, I simply grabbed this book and read again while waiting. Yeah, it did remind me something.

Not to mention what this book is about. In summary, the book is basically telling ppl the only way to be richer is make money work for you. How? Through investment. Invest your money in capital market or buy income-producing assets, e.g. property. It's not investments I want to talk about. Ppl like me with little cashflow in hand can't really afford throwing money into capital market. Plus, I'm such a risk-adverse kind of person + my luck "dai sai" especially this year = I'd better play safe.

As I stumbled upon the book, I have strong feel over these 2 lines: "Work to learn" and "The rich don't work for money".

Indeed, to me (and maybe to most of the ppl), working = learning. I always believe one should not mind putting extra efforts at work, this is especially when you're a new bird in your field. I used to have this mentality in the initial years of working and that's why I didn't mind working late, and most of time I don't mind those times were not charged OT. Sound silly and stupid but that's part of the learning curve. Maybe I was badly affected by the phrase "work to learn" or maybe it's different in this profession as in, you learn and progress if you're willing to spend time. It does make a difference when you're willing to input your personal time into learning the essence of something which will make you stand fit in your position and differentiate yourself from your peers.

To link this to "the rich don't work for money", one must have enthusiasm for work. Once you lost the passion then you'll be ended up working for money, let alone learning and thus no more advancement. Yeah.... Exactly, that's the state I'm in. I finally realise I'm feeling lost because I'm no longer living with this work-to-learn attitude. (Because I thought myself experienced and be contented?) I have too much blames and that's why I feel miserable (always think myself suay and kena all the sai jobs?). I look at my friends, yes.. you... you....and you (my dad, hehe)... one should really expertise your interest while making a living in order to get rich.

For those who think themselves are not moving forward, I hope you can be more aggressive at work... If you think yourself are getting low pay, find a way out! I'm telling myself this also. Oh.. I recalled a comment He-man left me:

"Saving is only part of it.. so the ultimate "solution" is to make more money. there is no limit out there, there is no limit on how much you can earn. don't waste too much time on how can you can save. should spend more effort on how you can make more money."

Different ppl different needs. I'm not workaholic though, I need job satisfaction; I do not need loads of money, I want to be affordable for things I need without worries.

After all, it's the attitude that matters...
